Adolescent Info

A wealth of information for both parents and teens

For Teens

The research
New research (Cornell University ACT 2002) has debunked our old belief that the major wiring of the human brain was complete at 3 and matured at 10 or 12. This research has found, using MRI, that the teens brain is not a finished product but is a work in progress. The brain is still maturing up to the age of 20 for some adolescents.

This finding sheds new light on many issues surrounding this difficult period of life. Can it be that I really am having a hard time and not just trying to annoy people, Can I say I don’t know why I did something and really mean it? Is there and end to the way I feel? The answers to these questions might be very well be yes, but not because you chose to be like like this. The findings of this research show that the greatest changes in the brain that are responsible for functions such as self-control, judgment, emotions occur between puberty and adulthood. This may explain why I might be reckless, have emotional outbursts, or make poor decisions.
